President's Message

PRESIDENT: Gino Grelli

Hi Everyone,

A big shoutout to Dave Zaski and Alec Lyons for running another excellent poker tournament with a great turnout. It was great to see familiar faces from past years along with some new attendees. Events like this are successful because of both our participants and our sponsors, so thank you to everyone who helped make the night a success. Proceeds from the event will support ASHRAE Research Promotion.
Congratulations to our winners:
·         1st Place: Mark Martinez (Center)
·         2nd Place: Reto Gross (Left)
·         3rd Place: Dave Zaski (Right)

We’ll have final numbers and a brief event recap to share at our next ASHRAE meeting.  Looking ahead, our next major event—aside from our monthly meetings—will be the 23rd Annual Sporting Clays Event in April. This is always a well-attended event, expertly put on by Matt Brennan, and more details will be shared soon.

Lastly, we are currently accepting scholarship applications for approximately the next month. Please remind any potential candidates to submit their applications by March 20th at 5:00 PM. The scholarship is open to both engineering students and those pursuing construction-related fields, and we encourage you to share this opportunity with any eligible students you may know.  Link to the application is available here:  Scholarship

Thank you all for your continued involvement and support of our chapter. I look forward to seeing everyone during the remainder of the year.

Best regards,
Gino Grelli

Chapter President

Student Activities Chair Report

STUDENT ACTIVITIES CHAIR - DAVE ZASKI

Hello Everyone,

This past November I presented for the second-grade classes at Van Gorder Elementary. The presentations centered around education on career opportunities in mechanical engineering and HVAC. The students participated in a hands-on activity utilizing Legos to simulate the design process of a mechanical system for a commercial building. The presentations were well received, and we also read the “Lucy’s Engineering Adventure” book as well as donated copies to the library. I will be attending upcoming STEM events in February, and I am planning to present for the middle school students at Sky Ranch later this winter.

Additionally, I am working on establishing a local student branch with the higher education establishments in the area.

Our local chapter would like to promote student engagement in our chapter meetings and please be sure to recommend attendance to any students studying engineering/HVAC in the area.

Please be sure to reach out with any scholarship nominees as we are actively accepting nominations.

Dave Zaski – Student Activities Chair
