Jack Zarour - ASHRAE Mechanical Engineer

“Filtration”

Topic Description

Some may be frightened with the situation we are all facing right now, but the best way to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities is with knowledge based information.

Air Filtration in the HVAC industry always took a back set in the design and building design process, it’s something the engineers did not prioritize and left it to the equipment vendors to supply. Unless they are designing a clean room where filters took center stage.

In this presentation I will explain how filtration in building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems a part of an overall risk mitigation approach can be but is not generally regarded as solution by itself.  As there is no direct scientific evidence of benefit, but some reduced exposure can reasonably be inferred based on the ability of some filters to remove relevant-sized particles and droplets.

For air filters to have any impact. Filters must be appropriately specified, installed and maintained, for the building in which they are used.
